Buddahs in the hill

I apologize for the lack of updates lately. To be honest my family has been struck down with a stomach bug and we all seem to have had turns at lying around feeling very sorry for ourselves over the last few days. While I was out to the world on Sunday Tom took Hannah and the kids out for another cultural adventure. This time they climbed up the stone steps, that legend has it an ogre built in one night, to look at the huge stone buddahs carved into the cliffs. It is thought that they were built in 718 and the largest one is 8 meters high. Although previously one of the best parts of the walk up was the random rock steps the inclusion of handrails has now taken away a lot of the charm.
The second place they went to was Fuki-ji temple. It is "widely known as the oldest surviving Buddhist building in Kyushu". It is a very plain temple, but very beautiful in its own way. It is thought to have been built in the 12th century, but has been repaired since after air raids etc.
Again we hope to be able to take you there soon too!
